Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are a versatile, non-surgical solution for addressing volume loss, enhancing facial contours, balancing facial features, and smoothing wrinkles. Dermal fillers are a gel-like substance that is injected under the skin. We use filler made from hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally found in the skin that helps maintain hydration and volume, and can be dissolved if necessary. The procedure is minimally invasive, with immediate results that can last anywhere from 6 to 24 months.

Common treatment areas include:

  • Nasolabial folds (smile lines)

  • Cheeks

  • Lips

  • Smoker lines (lines around the mouth)

  • Jawline

  • Chin

  • Temples

  • Tear troughs (under-eye hollows)

  • Marionette lines (lines and volume loss under the corners of the mouth)

This is a great treatment option for patients wanting a preventative or restorative treatment to turn back the hands of time. They are often used alongside the biostimulator, Sculptra, as it helps rebuild collagen for a full facial rejuvenation.

When can I see results from dermal filler treatment?

You can see the results of fillers instantly. Some swelling, redness, and bruising can occur so optimal results are seen 2-4 weeks after treatment when the filler is fully integrated into the tissue.

How long do dermal filler treatment results last?

It depends. There are several factors that influence the longevity of dermal filler. It depends on the type of filler used, where it is placed, and your own metabolism or biology. Typically the effects that filler provides will last anywhere from 6 months to 2 years. To maintain full results, maintenance sessions will be needed on a 6-12 months basis.

Does dermal filler treatment hurt?

Patient comfort is key. We always use a topical or local anesthetic to alleviate any discomfort during treatment.

How do I prepare for dermal filler treatment?

Take the time to fill out all paperwork, review and sign consents, and prepare any questions prior to your appointment. Please arrive with no makeup and hair off of your face if possible. If you are able, eat a snack or meal prior to treatment.

To reduce the chance of bruising, consider taking oral Arnica tablets a few days prior to appointment. Also avoid the following for two days prior to your treatment (unless medically contraindicated): Alcoholic beverages, NSAIDs (Advil, Aleve), Aspirin, Vitamin E supplements.

If you have a history of oral herpes simplex, you should be pre-treated prior to your dermal filler lip procedure to reduce the risk of outbreak.

What should I expect after dermal filler treatment?

Redness and bruising of injection sites are possible and swelling is likely. Please plan accordingly by avoiding treatment within 2 weeks of any social events, special occasions, etc. Swelling can also dissipate unevenly, so please wait a full 2 weeks for evaluation.

To ensure optimal results:

  • Try not to sleep on your face.

  • Use clean hands to touch your face using very gentle pressure.

  • Avoid wearing makeup until the following day.

  • Do not get facials, dental work, immunizations, or laser treatments for 2 weeks.

Do you split syringes? Or what if I don’t need a full syringe?

No, we do not split syringes. We aim to give our patients the best, most complete, and natural results possible. The type of filler and amount used is different for everyone and should be determined by an experienced injector administering the treatment.

Why do some treatments require multiple sessions?

Treatment sessions may vary and depend on each individual patient’s anatomy and natural boundaries. It is important to allow the initial filler to integrate before adding more. This ensures a natural result, suitable for your face and anatomy. By adding filler in layers over time, it also allows the results to last longer and require less product in future touch-ups.

What if I don’t like my results?

If you try filler once and decide the treatment is not right for you, there is no issue with not returning for future treatment. Over time your face will return to its baseline from before treatment was completed.
